The Story Behind the Sound
What happens when you put a group of creative minds in a room, give them a spooky art show to soundtrack, and let their imaginations run a little wild? Well, you get What The Lens Hears.
Commissioned for a spooky art show conceived by the wonderfully creative minds at Ritual Rebelle, this atmospheric lo-fi album became an excuse for the team at Diamond Studios to have a little fun with sound.
Preparation included horror movie nights featuring classics and cult favorites like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Coraline, Halloween, and Eraserhead. (An excellent excuse to watch scary movies and call it research.)
From there, the experimentation began. We scraped knives against mandolin strings, dropped keys into cups, captured the rumble of New York trains, and found music in places most people wouldn't think to look. There were no rules about what an instrument had to be or what a sound was supposed to do.
The goal wasn't simply to make music. It was to build an atmosphere, create a feeling, and give the artwork another dimension.
What The Lens Hears is ultimately a celebration of collaboration, curiosity, and the joy of making something a little different. Sometimes the best music comes from thinking outside the box. Other times, it comes from putting some keys in a cup and seeing what happens.
The Story Behind the Cover: An Owl, A Painting, and A Little Creative Chaos
Every good story has to start somewhere. This one started with an owl.
Before there was a background, before there was a finished album cover, there was a little handmade paper owl created by an incredibly talented artist at Ritual Rebelle.
We loved the idea of having something physical, handmade, and a little unusual at the center of the artwork. The owl came first, and then we had a new challenge: it needed a world to live in.
That's where our anonymous painter entered the picture.
We commissioned a painter to create the intricate, wonderfully chaotic artwork that now fills the background. The expressive lines, hidden shapes, and almost dreamlike faces gave the piece exactly the kind of atmosphere we were looking for. Rather than simply placing the owl on a blank canvas, we wanted it to feel like it belonged somewhere.
Finally, the team at Diamond Studios brought everything together, combining the original handmade owl, the commissioned painting, and the visual identity of the album into the finished cover.
And just like that, three different creative contributions became one piece of artwork.
We love projects like this because they remind us that collaboration isn't about everyone doing the same thing. It's about bringing different talents, ideas, and perspectives together and seeing what happens.
One artist made an owl. Another painted its world. And we got to bring them together.
Honestly, we couldn't have planned it much better.
